PROJECT FOCUS

"Reaching the 100 least reached people groups of Southern Africa with the gospel of Jesus Christ"

Your opportunity to get involved!

Mission Statement

In humble submission to our Lord Jesus Christ and His Great Commission, World Mission Centre endeavours, by means of Project Focus, to develop an Internationally duplicable missions model in Southern Africa that will mobilise the South African and International body of Christ, as partners, to plant and establish viable, indigenous churches amongst the least reached people groups of the world.

Introduction

Project Focus was launched on 22 April 1999 by World Mission Centre. The purpose is the development of a duplicable model that can be used as a means to mobilize Southern African churches, mission organizations and individuals from 22 Southern African countries to reach out and plant churches among the 100 Least Reached People Groups of Southern Africa.

Vision

The vision of Project Focus was to establish at least one self-reproducing cell church amongst each of the 100 Least Reached People Groups of Southern Africa by 31 December 2000. These newly found churches would be helped to grow to maturity to the point that they will be able to duplicate themselves in the rest of the people group.

Strategy

Project Focus is embodied in the following strategies:

Formation of partnerships:

In order to awaken a deeper understanding of missions and to mobilize Christians at local church level, World Mission Centre initiated the creation of the "Hub"- a network of churches that focus their mission efforts on a particular region or country. The hub pools resources and co-ordinate efforts to target the least reached people groups of a country. World Mission Centre's goal is to establish 22 hubs in South Africa that will focus on different countries in Southern Africa. These Hubs will in turn form a partnership with the national church leadership in one of the 22 countries within the Southern African region. The goal of reaching the least reached people groups of the country in question, by the end of the year 2000.

Focus teams:

A Focus Team is a special task force of trained missionaries that will penetrate resistant people groups requiring unique strategies or specific training for those living in geographical areas which are hard to get to.

The Focus Team was trained during the first half of 2000 and sent to the unreached people groups under the covering of the partnerships and national church leaders. The school that trained the Focus Team was known as the Live School. Training of the Focus Team included the following:

  • An awareness on how to be culturally sensitive while communicating gospel and living in a foreign country.
  • Planning your route on a map and using a compassor GPS to guide them.
  • Packing all you need to survive into a backpack while getting used to walking 20 km a day.
  • Sleeping in a small tent in the bush and enduring all kinds of harsh weather conditions.
  • Assisting someone with first aid in case of an injury.
  • Discipline enabling each one to endure all kinds of hardship without falling apart on the field.
  • Learn the importance of submitting to leadership within the team while keeping UNITY amongst team members.

Mobilizing resources:

This comprises the mobilizing of strategic resources such as 4x4 vehicles, planes, hiking gear, medical equipment, etc. from within the Body of Christ and includes contacts that church members have.
